UPDATED: La Roux - Bulletproof
Maine told me about this band, and she found out about them on Youtube.
La Roux consists of an English electropop duo: singer Eleanor Jackson and synth player Ben Langmaid. The name "La Roux" actually means "the red one" in French, and it's based on the fact that Jackson has distinctly red hair.
Have you noticed her fashion style? Wikipedia states that she co-designs her clothes with her pet dog, Snappy. Interesting. Anyways, her music definitely isn't what you'd hear in the "mainstream," so give it a listen. It's really upbeat and flashy -- a good song if you're a fan of electropop.
UPDATE: Posted the song again. Now working and available for your listening pleasure! :) (If you want to see the real video, go to this link.)

Michael Jackson - Heal the World
Long time no blog! It's been forever. Just thought I'd share a little something Music Min did at Liwanag's 9th Annual Benefit Concert last week. Enjoy!
And here's a cover of "Because of Who You Are" by the ladies of eight2eleven:

Simply amazing.

Update: Titles
Hey everyone! Hope you all had a wonderfull Thanksgiving!
I just got a suggestion that titles of blog entries should have the name and group name of the video/song you are sharing (in the "Group name - Song Title" format)! This would also be helpful for those who check out the archive section since your entry will not show up in the Archives without a title.
Thanks for your cooperation everyoneee!
Sincerely,
Charmaine

Here is my soul mate, er, Josh Ritter. He's a folk singer from Idaho and gained much more popularity in Ireland than he did in the States. His lyrics are enticing, his music moving, and his voice uplifting - he is my epitome of a true musical talent. Also, he is much better live than on record!! Gotta love that. If his music doesn't get you, his personality will! If his personality still doesn't get you, his bassist's mustache will!
This is one if his most famous songs, "Kathleen." Though the quality of the video is pretty horrendous (sorry!), his enthusiasm to be performing transcends the general crappiness of youtube :)

"Kokomo (Beach Boys cover)" by The Muppets
So I know this might be kind of lame, but I'm a big Beach Boys fan and I am a big fan of The Muppets, so I thought they'd go good together. And somewhat, they do.

Pyramiddd - Medicine
One of their most recent songs. I know I posted a few songs by them already, but they never cease to disappoint! (Although the voiceover throughout the song is the same voiceover used in "Isabella of Castille". Just a tad redundant.)

Gym Class Heroes - Live a Little
In case you aren't familiar, Gym Class Heroes is known for their song, "Cupids Chokehold," which is actually a remake of the song "Breakfast In America" by Supertramp, a popular band in the 70s.
I probably would never have thought of posting a song by the Gym Class Heroes here, but this song is different -- it was filmed at the Bren Events Center at UCI! Give it a watch! It's pretty awesome :)
The song isn't too bad, either.

"Singing In My Sleep" by Semisonic
Flash back from the 90s. I heard this song while working out at the gym. The keyboard part at the beginning sounds outrageously out of sync, but the chorus is super cool.

"Ghost Town" by Shiny Toy Guns
I heard this song on the radio. I think the thing that really gets me going about this is the dual vocals. I wouldn't normally be into this type of music, but super chill.

"1901" by Phoenix
So I thought this was Bloc Party was at first; I'm sure anyone would make the same mistake. Super catchy song. I saw it in a Cadillac SRX commercial. Hella dig the song. Check it.

"Purpose Was Again" by The Bloodsugars
I heard about this band from Absolutepunk.net, a website I frequent. It's an aight song, but I like the video alot. And the guy at the very beginning looks like Mario Batali from Food Network.

Thao with The Get Down Stay Down - Cool Yourself
I love this band! Here's a more recent song that they've made. I discovered it through my infamous TV channel that doesn't fail to disappoint. The song's got a funny and quirky music video to come along with it -- I think it represents their humor very well.

Loose Lips by Kimya Dawson
I'm learning to play this song right now. I just heard it on the Juno Soundtrack (one of my favorites btw), and I liked the simplicity of the rhythm mixed with the fast lyrics. Listen closely or read the lyrics below, and the song will be a lot cooler.
Lyrics:
loose lips might sink ships but loose gooses take trips
to san francisco, double dutch disco,
tech tv hottie, do it for scotty
do it for the living and do it for the dead
do it for the monsters under your bed
do it for the teenagers and do it for your mom
broken hearts hurt but they make us strong and
we won't stop until somebody calls the cops
and even then we'll start again and just pretend that
nothing ever happened
we won't stop until somebody calls the cops
and even then we'll start again and just pretend that
nothing ever happened
we're just dancing, we're just hugging,
singing, screaming, kissing, tugging
on the sleeve of how it used to be
how's it gonna be?
i'll drop kick russell stover, move into the starting over house
and know matt rouse and jest are watching me achieve my dreams
and we'll pray, all damn day, every day,
that all this shit our president has got us in will go away
while we strive to figure out a way we can survive
these trying times without losing our minds
so if you wanna burn yourself remember that I LOVE YOU
and if you wanna cut yourself remember that I LOVE YOU
and if you wanna kill yourself remember that I LOVE YOU
call me up before your dead, we can make some plans instead
send me an IM, i'll be your friend
shysters live from scheme to scheme and my 4th quarter pipe dreams
are seeming more and more worth fighting for
so i'll curate some situations, make my job a big vacation
and i'll say FUCK BUSH AND FUCK THIS WAR
my war paint is sharpie ink and i'll show you how much my shit stinks
and ask you what you think because your thoughts and words are powerful
they think we're disposable, well both my thumbs opposable
are spelled out on a double word and triple letter score
we won't stop until somebody calls the cops
and even then we'll start again and just pretend that
nothing ever happened
we won't stop until somebody calls the cops
and even then we'll start again and just pretend that
nothing ever happened
we're just dancing, we're just hugging,

Nurses - Wait for a Safe Sign
Yeah, this band is called Nurses. And they sound awesome, too!
Nurses - Wait for a Safe Sign
Wiki excerpt:
Nurses - Wait for a Safe Sign
Wiki excerpt:
Nurses is a Portland-based indie rock trio comprised of Aaron Chapman (vocals, guitar, keyboard), John Bowers (backing vocals, keyboard), and James Mitchell (percussionist & visual artist). Their sound is often categorized as psychedelic pop, folk rock, and experimental. Nurses started as a quartet from Idaho which moved to Southern California where, in 2006, they recorded and independently released their debut album, Hangin' Nothin' But Our Hands Down.(Read more here.)
Update?!
Hey all! So I was surfing the web and came upon the CBOX. (I think a lot of websites use this, actually.) But anyway, I added it to the side so... talk it uppp (and post any upcoming shows too if you'd like).
Plus, it's a lot more aesthetically pleasing (Mark).

had to watch Miss Saigon for my theater class
this song grasped me.
probably one of my softer sides when it comes to listening to music.

Letting Up Despite Great Faults - In Steps
Mark S. told me about this song, which he found through the "indie version of The Music Ocean blogspot." Specifically, that indie music blog is called Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers, and if you visit the website you can download Letting Up's whole album (including this song). The album was released very recently -- just came out this October!
Oh, and it has a very indie-esque album cover. You can see it on the YouTube video below:

"Silver Trembling Hands" by The Flaming Lips
These guys are one of my favorite bands right now. Spinning their new album (along with Tegan and Sarah's Sainthood). My friend informs me that MGMT helped The Flaming Lips write a few songs on their new album - this being one of them.
