I have crushes on two YouTube stars, and this song explains my thoughts haha.

Phantogram - When I'm Small
Phantogram is an American electronic rock/indie pop duo: guitarist Josh Carter and keyboardist Sarah Barthel. I first heard about them from my friend who's an avid music fan. They started in 2007, so they're pretty new. While searching for new music, I remembered this band. I particularly like this song. Not a very loud song or super dance-y, but a nice listen either way.

"Are You Here?" by Corinne Bailey Rae
I picked up this album at Sam's Club today. From first listen, I thought it was super different from anything I've heard from her before, but after reading a few bios on her, it's not too different from anything she's done before. Corinne Bailey Rae once headed an indie rock band called Helen that eventually signed to Road Runner Records - a heavy metal label with such acts as Slipknot. Anyways, her album is bomb. It's like Leonard Cohen jamming with Curtis Mayfield with the progressiveness of Sly and the Family Stone.

The Knife - You Make Me Like Charity
THE KNIFE - YOU MAKE ME LIKE CHARITY
"I took a cab there to hold her
I took a plane there to feel what she felt
You make me like charity
Instead of paying enough taxes..."
"You Make Me Like Charity" by The Knife Lyrics
You try to feel but you can't wake up
You try to touch but you can't wake up
You're holding eyes and you don't wake up
Increase the size and you don't wake up
I do it backwards but I don't wake up
Try to reverse but I don't wake up
I sit astride but I still don't wake up
More than a second
When reading the newspaper
I felt the war
I felt her exposed position
I saw myself in the picture
And I
I took a cab there to hold her
I took a plane there to feel what she felt
You make me like charity
Instead of paying enough taxes
I took a cab there to hold her
I took a plane there to feel what she felt
You make me like charity
Instead of paying enough taxes

Gold Panda - Quitters Raga
This is Gold Panda.
And I can't find any information about them. I've managed to discover another band that doesn't have a Wikipedia page. Not even their MySpace page says where they're from, but it looks like they're a Japanese band. Kind of surprising, because after listening to this song, you'd have sworn they were Indian...
This song is super interesting--lots of strange beats and noises that somehow mesh together perfectly to make an original sound.

Tegan and Sara - Alligator
Tegan and Sara have been previously introduced to this blog, but Mark told me about this new song by them. The video is super cute, and the tune is catchy.
UPDATE: This song is actually part of their album, Sainthood. The album was released in October of 2009.
Listen!

Penguin Prison - A Funny Thing
I happened to find this song on Youtube while searching for some new music. I'm lucky I found this one, though -- I love it! Sadly, this band doesn't have a Wikipedia page yet, but I did find out that they are an indie pop band that originated in New York. According to their MySpace page, they've been making music since 2005.
And another interesting fact, the band's records were produced by Neon Gold Records, the same company that produced singles for Passion Pit.
Anyways, listen to this song -- it's totally upbeat and dance-y!
You can listen to another one of Penguin Prison's songs, "Animal Animal," if you Expand Post!

"Half Acre" by Hem
I thought this band was from Ireland, but apparently they are from New York. They say that they are 'indie folk rock,' but it reminds me more of Sarah McClachlan (sp?).
Eminem - Stan (My Neighbour Totoro Remix)
I like Eminem, and I like the movie My Neighbour Totoro. Seeing these two together sounds nice.
One of my favorite songs from this artist.

Steve Vai - Now We Run
Steve Vai, probably most known for appearing in the movie Crossroads, staring Ralph Maccio, where he apparently loses a guitar duel because he can't play classical music or something like that.
In any case, guitar solos + violin solos = awesomes
Mint Chicks - Hot on Your Heels
MINT CHICKS - HOT ON YOUR HEELS
Found out about The Mint Chicks this week. I love their stuff! Wiki claims they're an experimental noise rock/power pop group from New Zealand. This video's trippy but the song is great. I also like their song "Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!" (listen to it after the cut) and "Bad Buzz"!

"40 Day Dream" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
I first saw this band at Treasure Island in SF. Now they're gaining more and more popular in large part to this song being featured at the end of an episode of Chuck. I dig this song.

Tunng - Bullets
Tunng is an experimental folk band from the UK (go figure) and their music is considered to be "Folktronica." My friend first introduced me to this song "Bullets" in freshman year, and I immediately liked it! If you listen to it, you'll notice that they've got a lot of interesting sounds, and that's because the band uses strange instruments to make certain sounds. The music video for this song is strange, too, but listen to it anyway:
I've listened to their other songs, too, and in general they're a really mellow band. But another thing I like about Tunng is their album art! It's pretty abstract, but very intricate. EXPAND POST to check out their art!
