"Mickey Mouse" by Wavves
I was at my friend David's house, and our friend Kurt was playing Left 4 Dead 2 on XBOX 360. David decides to fire up some music on his cell phone and proceeds to tell me how this band's (Wavves') new album is being compared to a "hipster Blink-182 cover band" [I paraphrased]. Then he says, "But this song sounds like Animal Collective," and he puts on "Mickey Mouse." Super chill song. They are playing with a bunch of other bands in the hipster capital of LA, Echo Park (I'm sure many would argue Silver Lake) for a festival called F*CK YEAH FESTIVAL on September 4.

An Horse - Listen (Bodega Girls Remix)
An Horse - Listen (Bodega Girls Remix)
I usually don't like remixes but THIS is a gorgeous exception. Stunning song. The original is beautiful, too. I heard the remix first but... AHH I love them both. (By the way, I just realized that in pursuit of finding a spiffy new layout for The Wire Box, I've also deleted the coding for the "Read this full post" thingamabobber. So now that "span style" coding shiz in every New Post is perfectly VOID. Whooooopeeeee. Oops.)
By the way, An Horse is an indie pop band from Australia since '08. They've toured with Tegan and Sara before, according to Wiki. Cool, cool.

Top 10 Favorite Songs
Following up to what Steve has started.
10. Midicronica - San Francisco
I heard this from "Samurai Champloo". The song brings a lot of relaxation in my mind. This was the last song before the series ended, so it also gives a "goodbye for now, thank you for the memories" kind of vibe to it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwbUwCewf8U
9. Underoath - When The Sun Sleeps
I got into this band back in Sophomore year in high school. I really digged their songs and their lyrics. I would often contemplate and have their songs all the time when I would walk home.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03riMI6IEKY
8. Kai - It Might Be You
I would hear this song on repeat when I would play video games with my cousin back then. He's the one who introduced me to slow jams.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKOeVhyj8b8
7. Phoenix - If I Ever Feel Better
This song played when I was sessioning with my friends at their garage. It's one of those songs where I can just dance off all of my complications and frustrations.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJp3kVelU3c
6. Lifehouse - Everything
This song gets me every time, especially when Liwanag did a skit with that song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1tVk-QlBKs
5. Paramore - Franklin
Brings a lot of nostalgia from where I used to live, even though I live one city apart from it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3SslRahz6E
4. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under The Bridge
Heard this in a retreat. Really felt like I could relate to this song in high school.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1hdOMkL6GE&feature=related
3. Nujabes - Reflection is Eternal
The first song I ever heard from Nujabes. I only loved his music from there on. R.I.P. Still miss you man...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qU2MXeAz1E
2. My American Heart - All My Friends
Steve was the one who introduced me to MAH and took me to my first concert. This song was the one that really got me emotional when I watched their last show at Chain Reaction.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNPUWTaYtqI
1. Toonami - Broken Promise
I really love the instrumental and calm vibe to this song. I first heard it in this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv-EA3WEImk
I just love the atmosphere it brings, it's one of those meditating songs I would play when I'm not focused.

Top 10 Favorite Songs
I thought it would be interesting to do a little reflection and list (in no particular order) my Top 10 Favorite Songs (of All Time). Now I have to use the phrase "of all time" loosely because my taste in music changes all the time. One day I might be bumping my car to Katy Perry's "California Gurls" and the next day I'll be chilling to some indie music from the likes of My American Heart and The Higher. I just picked songs that I could listen to all day and not get tired of, songs that bring back a good memory, and songs that fit with who I believe I am and resonate with me. Go ahead, make you're own list. I'd definitely look forward to seeing what kinds of songs you guys came up with as your top 10, top 5 or even top 3.
10. Ginuwine - "Differences"
When I was younger (junior high to early high school years), I was definitely in an R&B phase. "Differences" is one my favorite slow jams of all time, and I could never get tired of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ocUdzkB7s4
9. Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson - "Beauty and the Beast"
Gotta love my man Peabo. This is the best version I have ever heard of my favorite Disney song. I first heard it when I got my Disneyland annual pass and watched "Fantasmic" for the first time since I was real little. I had never heard a guy sing parts of this song before, but I thought it fit perfect. Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson do an amazing duet together and that's why this song makes my list.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n_5xo9YpmQ
8. Daft Punk - "One More Time"
Surprisingly this is the song that made me want to start this post. With its numerous remixes and simple lyrics, I don't think this song could ever get old for me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fwVUOMyWIs
7. Jagged Edge ft. Nelly - "Where the Party At"
In no way is this my favorite song, but it makes the list for the sole reason of being the first song I learned how to dance (and C-walk) to.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UCY_U4QwqI
6. Tal Bachman - "Aeroplane"
"Aeroplane" is an interesting choice. I doubt any person reading this has ever heard this song, but if you've ever seen the movie "American Pie: Band Camp" this is the song that the band is practicing throughout the movie and the song that got Elyse into her school. I only ever heard the instrumental part of this song, and I loved it. Not sure I know why, but the instrumentals alone made me search for this song for the longest time. It took forever to find the song (probably 2 years after I heard it) because I never knew its name. I've got to admit, "American Pie" movies have some good songs (ie. Matt Nathanson "Laid" ;) ).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miVPB-AeSMY
5. Elton John - "Candle in the Wind"
Just cause its an amazing song, y'know. Dedicating the song to Princess Diana during her funeral just adds to the reason why Elton John is one of the greats in my book.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIJIBo9bJk0
4. Utada Hikari - "Simple and Clean"
The theme song for my favorite video game, "Kingdom Hearts," makes the list because I almost bought this song on a Japanese imported CD that would have cost me over $20 just for this one song. This was in the day before Youtube and downloading music on the computer. Years later on a Guiding Light retreat, we would all get CDs from a couple of the leaders, and the CD I got had this song on it. I was pretty thankful to say the least. The Lord works in mysterious ways.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkS4AVfIxyo
3. Hillsong United - "You'll Come"
This one is tricky because I had to put a praise and worship song up here because it has been such a big part of my life, but I have no one single favorite. "You'll Come" is my current favorite, which I heard Jackie Francios sing beautifully at Steubenville San Diego.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NFP2KMy2MQ
2. Aerosmith - "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing"
Who would have thought one of the greatest songs would have come out of a movie soundtrack and written for Liv Tyler? Personally this song is one of the most emotional ones I know.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo_0UXRY_rY
1. Don McLean - "American Pie"
So much symbolism.

Just tinkering around with the layout... Figured that since this blog has been made over a year ago, why not give it a new look? The layout may change throughout the week...

Le Loup - Planes Like Vultures
Le Loup - Planes Like Vultures
One of those songs that engulf you in a trance-like and ethereal moment. Religious, even.
Like listening to M83's "We Own the Sky", Arcade Fire's "Wake Up", or The Temper Trap's "Sweet Disposition" (I just realized all those songs were posted by Mark, fyi).
"Dear God" by Monsters of Folk
My Monsters of Folk album got stuck in my CD player in my car. And it was stuck on this song.

"Broken" by Gorillaz
My family has had these people coming to my house the past few days to do some remodeling. As a result I've been home all day, surfing the net, reading books, and listening to music. While I'd be angry at this prospect of being confined for quite a few days, "listening to music" has been the highlight.
I was going to post another Gorillaz song, but someone already posted. Izzz legit. Actually the beat to this song hella reminds me of "Dear God" by Monsters of Folk.
Gorillaz - Rhinestone Eyes
Gorillaz - Rhinestone Eyes
A catchy, upbeat, and danceable Gorillaz song from their March 2010 album Plastic Beach. "Superfast Jellyfish" is a fun song too!

Working for a Nuclear Free City - Asleep at the Wheel
A friend told me about this band. Great song. The video is made by a fan, but it has some amazing photography!
P.S. It's hard to label the band's genre... I put down electronica but I don't know if that quite captures the band's sound...
