RE: Music that 'pumps you up.'
In regards to Mark's post, I just found out about this song at the Starfucker concert. It's a mash-up of Gucci Mane & SKELETRON - Running Back vs. Dragon Monkey.
I'll post more songs that I can think of later.. But at the top of my head:
The Knife - Kino
The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health (Ratatat Remix)
Crystal Castles - Intimate
Royksopp ft. Fever Ray - This Must Be It
Starfucker - Medicine
La Roux - Colourless Colour
Ratatat - Seventeen Years
The Pass - Colors

THEME: Music that 'pumps you up.'
I don't know how to phrase it, but I need music that physically gets you going.
I should probably explain: I plan to do a half marathon in approximately 45 days, with my first "test" run (13.1 miles) in four weeks. As of right now, after about seventy days of training, I can do 11 miles (11.25 to be exact) at approximately 9 mins per a mile (plus-or-minus 30 secs). From this, I am estimating my half marathon time will be approximately 2.5 hours (which is below average, but it's more important you finish than you go fast). Ergo, I need approximately two and a half hours of music. I need you guys to provide me the soundtrack that will supplement my victory (LOL) or defeat (likely).
Right now I know I'll start out with Thrice's "Cold Cash and Colder Hearts" and aptly finish with "Transatlanticism" by Death Cab for Cutie, and for sure I will have Radiohead's "Bodysnatchers" in the middle. As you can tell, these are fairly diverse musical selections, ergo, anything goes as long as it gets you "pumped." Seriously, don't be afraid to suggest/recommend 5-10 songs (just don't recommend whole albums). I'm pretty sure it'll take about 30-40 songs (if the average song is four mins long) to fill my quota.
Too long, didn't read: I need 2.5 hours of music to listen to whilst I partake in a physically-demanding [for me at least] endeavor. Make it good "box-heads" (LOL).

Coyote Bones - Grand Eclipse
My boyfriend told me about this incredible song. The style of Coyote Bones reminds me of "Joys Wants Eternity" and "Working for a Nuclear Free City".
"Grand Eclipse", to me, immediately triggers feelings of longing and nostalgia, yet there is still room for hope. A perfect ode to the end of winter quarter.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Ffunny Ffrends
Starf*cker concert tonight! Unknown Mortal Orchestra, along with Brahms, are the opening bands. Just discovered this amazing UMO song on YouTube. I fell in love INSTANTLY. Sounds like a track a hipster would listen to while driving to the beach (or, rather, walking barefoot to the beach). I hope they play this song tonight!
Detroit Bar. Costa Mesa. 9pm.
CANNOT. WAIT.
P.S. "Toward The Ghost" by Brahms is a great listen, too.

"Dream of the 90s" (from Portlandia)
Portlandia is a show from IFC. This film/song is literally from the first five minutes of the first episode, so you can watch it and not be "left out of the loop." It reminds me a musical version of Look at This F- Hipster.

Further Seems Forever - New Year's Project (Acoustic)
This was released this past december. I may or may not have mentioned it on this blog, but I'm kind of in awe that it's getting back to the original lineup - READ: Chris Carrabba.
Jason Gleason was kind of a douche, Jon Bunch brought a lot in from Sense Field, but this is how it was always meant to be. Chris's voice seems a bit torn up, but it just feels right. As much as I love Dashboard, I really hope this become permanent.
Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
"Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster The People has been my new song obsession lately. I heard this song playing on Star 98.7 one day, and I just love it! There's something very pleasant and calming about the beat. Ironically, though, the lyrics are pretty disturbing. To sum it up, the song's about a homicidal teenager. Check out the lyrics after the jump!
And just FYI, Foster The People is an indie rock band from LA. The band started fairly recently, in October 2009. Going to definitely check them out when they release more songs!
