In Defense of the Genre.

Metric is what I'd describe as the harder-edge, Canadian version of Rilo Kiley. (Debate?) Although the original version of "Help I'm Alive" is decent as well, I think the acoustic version is better. (Personal opinion of course.) Also there's an mp3 of this floating around somewhere - don't worry, it's totally legal. They released it as an incentive for signing on to their mailing list.

I don't know if Metric and Rilo Kiley are comparative, though Metric playing acoustic may be closer. In terms of style, Rilo Kiley tends towards folk, county, western. Metric tends towards techno and funk. I've just never really associated the two.

Definitely, their styles are different, but I do think that in a sense, there are parallelisms (Emily Haines vs. Jenny Lewis). But, if you listen to Metric's earlier matrial, it really does sound like a "harder" More Adventerous.

Also, the guy from Boy Meets World is in Rilo Kiley, haha.

I think I like this version more, too.
